Course description

Dreamtime is a five-week course exploring dreams, their symbolism and the fascinating relationship between dreaming, memory and the subconscious mind. Suitable for complete beginners, the course begins by looking at sleep and why we dream before exploring techniques that can help you remember and record your dreams more effectively.

You will examine recurring dreams, nightmares, symbols and archetypes while discovering why the same image may hold completely different meanings for different people. Rather than relying upon a simple dictionary of dream meanings, David will encourage you to consider emotions, personal associations, experiences and circumstances when exploring what a dream might mean to you.

You will also create and develop a dream journal, helping you recognise recurring themes and patterns over time. Whether exploring your own dreams or developing skills to help others reflect upon theirs, Dreamtime provides a fascinating introduction to the sleep world.

No. Dreamtime can be studied entirely as an exploration of dreams, symbolism, personal experiences and the subconscious mind.

That's not a problem. Dreamtime includes techniques designed to help improve dream recall and encourage you to capture information soon after waking.

Yes, we recommend keeping one throughout the course. It can simply be a notebook kept beside your bed.

Not necessarily. Dreams can be influenced by many factors, including memories, emotions and everyday experiences. Dreamtime encourages exploration rather than assuming every dream contains a hidden message.

No. Although certain symbols have traditional associations, personal experiences and emotions can significantly affect what an image means to an individual.

Traditional interpretations may be discussed, but Dreamtime does not rely upon a simple dictionary approach where every symbol is assumed to have one universal meaning.

Recurring dreams can have many possible explanations. During the course you will explore recurring themes, emotions and personal circumstances that may help you reflect upon why a particular dream continues to appear.

A nightmare should not automatically be treated as a prediction or warning. Dreams can be influenced by stress, memories, emotions and many other factors.

Some people interpret certain dreams spiritually, while others understand them psychologically or personally. Dreamtime allows these different perspectives to be explored without assuming one explanation must apply to every experience.

Yes. You will explore techniques for helping another person examine their dream, but the emphasis is on asking questions and understanding their personal associations rather than imposing your own meaning upon it.

Dreamtime is delivered live online using Zoom, with one session each week for five weeks.

Students who complete the course and successfully answer the required course questions can receive a certificate of completion.
